hello everybody it’s my VIP birthday today! a year to the day i officially became a fan of big bang and started calling myself a VIP. it’s been the most incredible year, maybe full of more downs than ups, but i’d never leave this fandom for anything. i’ve met so many lovely people and i can’t wait to meet more, and one day i’ll be waving my crown stick at a big bang concert ~

i don’t understand beauty. why is the term ‘beauty’ only used in relation to outer appearance, with total disregard to personality? how is it that you can describe somebody as ‘great person inside’, yet still ugly, just because she’s ‘not so great outside’? beauty doesn’t work like that. it shouldn’t.

i’m sorry if i sound uber angry right now, but i’m sick of everybody, all my so-called friends, calling certain idols ‘ugly’ all the damn time because they think it’s funny, because they just want to wind me up. with anybody else, i’d brush it off, because i’m not that shallow, but kang daesung and chaerin lee are different.

do you have any idea what daesung has been through? from the start, even the company kept telling him he was ugly, and okay you guise must all be gorgeous to be judging daesung so i guess you’ve never been called ugly but it hurts. he rose above it, though, and he fought for his dream and he made it, and i’m so glad he did. he’s so inspirational, and so strong, and he has so much faith in God and himself. his voice is incredible, the most incredible voice i’ve ever heard, but nobody seems to recognise that.

and chaerin? chaerin is everything i want to be, because she has the confidence i never had. i’m so shy, and anxious, and just so scaredin real life - i’m scared of everything, of stuffing up, of embarrassing myself, of what people think of me. and you know, some people tell me i look like CL, because we both have small eyes, and i guess the same build, in a way. chaerin lee is beautiful, because she’s comfortable in her own skin, and so her talent shines. i want to be beautiful like her, and that’s why i love her.

it doesn’t make any sense to me, at all. beauty is within. no matter how ‘ugly’ society deems you to be, if you’re talented and inspirational, if you love yourself for who you are, then you’re beautiful to me.

BIG BANG, or 빅뱅, is a south korean boy band (south korean is a synonym for amazing). formed in 2006 by YG Entertainment, the fivesome consists of G-DRAGON, T.O.P, TAEYANG, DAESUNG & SEUNGRI. they debuted on the 19th of august. 

G-DRAGON

kwon jiyong. commonly known as kwon leadah, captain g sparrow, bong or just our beloved GD, our 23-year-old leader has unbelievable talent. not only can he sing and rap, he is also a songwriter, a dancer, a composer, a producer, a model and quite the fashionista. he’s a musical prodigy, and i love him so much because of it. he’s often seen topping polls for most popular korean artist or hottest korean male. he’s also probably the only guy on the planet who can make bright pink trackies a fashion statement.

he’s also maybe the hardest working idol in the industry. apart from his work in big bang, he has also released a solo album, with another one on the way, and a duo album with fellow member T.O.P. he’s the type of guy who donates nearly $50 000 to hospitals on his own birthday. on stage he’s a sexy, powerful beast, but he’s sooo cute and playful behind the scenes, and everybody knows that he loves seungri.

T.O.P

choi seunghyun. occasionally known as bingu top, big seunghyun or tabi, he’s the hyung and resident rapper of the group. his seductive voice, coupled with those killer eyes, has been known to hypnotise fangirls around the world. when tabi’s not writing songs, starring in MVs or modelling (well he can’t help being so freakin’ hot) he’s acting in movies and dramas. sure, he may not be much of a dancer, but i love him for it!

even though he looks intimidating, tabi’s like a mars bar. although he’s the oldest member at 24, everybody knows he’s a five year old at heart. he sets the mood of the group and he’s pretty famous for being 4D - he has many quirks which just make us wonder what planet he comes from. he’s in love with park bom, who’s equally 4D - that’s why we call ‘springtempo’ the alien couple. he owns a crab hat and he’s proof that you can be extremely hot without needing to be shirtless. aaw i love you tabi! as if anyone could call you ugly!

TAEYANG

dong youngbae, my ultimate bias! sometimes known, especially in japan, as SOL, taeyang is the 23 -year-old lead singer and dancer and possibly the hottest, most incredible and talented human alive. as a child he was an actor, before debut he was a rapper and he’s also a gifted pianist - talk about talent - but these days he just puts all his heart and soul into his music. he’s one of the most amazing performers ever - on stage, he’s just on fire. and when he dances, the fangirl side of me dies over and over again. (i’m a sucker for dancers and he’s definitely the best ^^:)

taeyang has already released a solo mini-album, hot (whoa so appropriate) and a solo full album, solar. i guess he has a bit of a pure, innocent image - he’s never had a girlfriend and he’s christian. i love everything about him, like how he sounds so ghetto when he’s speaking engrish, and his dancing, and how he used to always wear baseball caps, and his sunglasses, and how amazing he is on stage and his adorable shy eye-smile and his voice and how he moves and his abs and omg, wedding dress and only look at me and i need a girl and his faux hawk and how he’s always tweets and how he walks - like, swag - and even how he’s short (i’m short tooo) …

DAESUNG

kang daesung. our ‘d-lite’ful, doraemon-obsessed vocalist is an angel, through and through. we love him for his strong, soulful voice and, more importantly, his beautiful smile. although his parents were completely against his idea of becoming a singer, he never gave up and fought hard for his dream. he’s a talented actor and was a member of the variety show, family outing, and he stars in a drama, what’s up. although daesung has released several solo singles, papa yg continues to be a troll - we’re still waiting on news of a solo album.

daesung’s been through quite a lot in his career, especially this year. through his christian faith, he’s has pulled through. at 22 years of age, daesung is one of the strongest people on the planet and is truly inspirational. he fought all that controversy, all the hate comments, all the accusations. some people think he’s ugly, but i feel sorry for them - they’re so narrow-minded and ignorant, they can’t see how amazing, talented and beautiful he is, inside and out.

SEUNGRI

lee seunghyun. our beloved maknae, our baby panda. when he’s drunk, he thinks he’s justin timberlake, but who needs sexyback when you’ve got this strong baby? seungri, or V.I (his name means victory) is known for confidence and cockiness. some might call it arrogance, but VIPs love his bold personality and big mouth.

seungri may be the youngest of the bunch - he’s just 21 - but he should not be underestimated. i don’t get why some people consider him the weak link - he’s just as talented as his hyungs. he’s an amazing singer, dancer, actor, composer, lyricist, producer, choreographer and even, i guess, a comedian. in fact, he’s even the CEO of ‘seungri academy’, raising the next generation of stars. he can always make you laugh and he never gives up. before big bang debuted, he was actually eliminated, but fought  back and was given a second chance.

together, they’re called big bang, because they wanted to form a big bang in the music industry, and that they certainly did. they took out worldwide act at the MTV EMAs last year, beating out a heap of other artists including britney spears. they always make me laugh and they inspire me. they mean the world to me, even though i haven’t even been a VIP for an entire year. 

big bang, my undying stars.

big bang. a five-membered south korean boy band whom i have officially been head-over-heels in love and obsessed with since 2011. they’re not the only group i like, but there’s a reason why big bang will always be my number one. they’re different from all those other groups.

music is so important to me. i’m depressed a lot of the time and i don’t know how to be strong or who to turn to, but music has always been there for me. at first, it was just to distract me, but then one day i was listening to haru haru and everything changed. even though i don’t understand the language, the song is really special to me. it spoke to me, and it moved me more than any american song ever had. everything i thought i knew about music had changed. music is emotion. that’s what the song made me realise. music has no language.

so big bang re-defined music for me. that’s why they’re so special to me. and unlike other korean groups, they are not just an idol group, or amazing performers, or pretty faces - they really are musicians. that’s why my oppars are better than yours (lol); they compose write their own songs and lyrics, they take part in the production, they really do work so hard to create the songs - all five of them. they aren’t like other groups, who just waltz into the studio and sing something - albeit incredibly - that somebody else wrote and arranged for them.

not to say that other groups don’t work hard, or aren’t as talented. just ..

you can tell how talented they are, because they’re so diverse in their styles and it really shows how they are real musicians. they started off with hip hop, but they’ve dabbled in so many genres - rock, electronic, pop, r&b. just like youngbae said, they can really do everything.

so yeah .. i don’t know why you guys love big bang. i guess we all have different reasons. i have other reasons too. but these are just a few of the reasons that set big bang apart from all the other groups. until whenever.
